Brig o' Turk locals night
7/10/2024 By Jason & Fraser (who came up with the idea)
Pencilled in the diary to start some time in December 2024.
I'm hopefull that this will develop into a regular meeting of locals to include such things as a quiz night, open mic night for musicians, whatever food and drink required together with anything else that makes a great community gathering.
This is an opportunity for the 'locals' to have the local pub their way on a regular basis as required.
I've been the landlord for nearly seven years at the Byre Inn. As time has moved on I have recognised that local residents (on the whole) would prefer a different stlye of pub that the Byre Inn has morphed in to during my tenure. However, during my time here the world has changed, in particular the hospitality sector. The amount of holiday accommodation relative to the 'natives' living in Brig o' Turk has also increased significantly since 2017 when I started here.
During my first couple of years I thought this was great, but it turns out not so. The peaks and troughs in business turnover throughout the year now is phenonimal. This works both ways. Great in the summer with the other 11 months of the year (lol) very unpredictable.
As many of you will know, I've tried many different ideas to make this place work. This is whilst 20+ pubs are going broke every month in the UK, over the past few years.
Many customers of ours have returned, several times, renting accommodation in Brig o' Turk because of the 'lively' pub. Others who reside in the village would prefer a quiet pint next to the fire (without the banter and shenanigans). This creates a bit of a divide. Helping the business community on one hand but at the same time often ostracising resident BrigoTurkians.
Without rambling too much longer...
I want to provide the local residents a with welcoming and relaxing community pub. During a small part of the year, most of the tourists want something almost diametrically opposed to this (which is when we turnover 75% of our annual income), with a healthy proportion of these customers returning in the future.
I want to do the best for everyone locally, residents and business alike. With advance notice, we can put on nights whenever throughout the year where you, the locals. basically have it the way you want it!
Im always available on 01877 701601 or pop in for a coffee and a chat.
Cheers,
Jason
Pub lego train system
25/09/2024 By Jason Allardyce
We're currently in the process of building a ceiling level Lego train track around the inside of the pub. We've been donated some track, but we're looking for more...
Customers and local companies are the sponsors we're looking for. The cost is £12 per metre of track. The sponsors name or logo can be featured on each section of track sponsored.
We have a number of self powered bluetooth controlled trains, interfaced with Raspberry Pi, allowing many possibilites!
Please help this project come alive by using the PayPal link below to sponsor.
Cheers!
